This next week we are gonna race a car the way it was meant to be raced... We are going to be taking an A-Class Mercedes SLS AMG around Alps Club. That catch however is the car must be automatic, and traction control, stability control, and ABS must be turned on. Post a pic from your leaderboard screen, or friend me and I will check your time.
The time to beat is 1:27.123

Add me, GodHammer6. Send me a message something along the lines of: "Oppo sent me here."

I would argue that this is not the way the car was meant to be raced...but interesting challenge.

My rationelle
Mercedes are to automatic like subaru was to awd.
Mercedes in general are notorious for being difficult/impossible to disable electronic nannies.

I see. Makes sense. But in the SLS, its pretty easy to flip all the things to sport/race, and put the transmission in manual. Most AMG drivers I know actually do drive their cars in manual mode, believe it or not.

By manual you mean semi automatic where you don't need a clutch pedal?

Well, manual-mode as it is called by Mercedes...meaning you have to use the paddles to change gears, and the car won't change up or down by itself at all.

Is this how it works?

You're on the right track - this is actually what it uses:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_clut…
The SLS uses a double clutch gearbox, which is a form of semi-automatic (or fully automatic, depending on what mode you're in) gearbox.

So... "A dual-clutch transmission, is a type of semi-automatic or automated manual automotive transmission."
If somebody told me that they had a new Ferrari with a manual transmission, I would ask them if they managed to snag one of the last California model's that had the option.

I think I saw where they sold two manual California's last year. May have been Hagerty's future classic report.
Fun fact. The DCT in the SLS is shared with the F12, 458, MP4-12C, California, the major differentiating factor is the software.

Wow that's crazy. Actually I had thought they stopped after 2012...at least that's what Ferrari wanted people to believe. They probably didn't want to build any and so tried to dissuade people from ordering one.
Yeah its funny very few people know that. Who builds it again I can't remember.

This week's race makes me want to see how much faster this car would be without all the nannies. The setup that I tinkered with to get my time was not ideal, but with the freaking car deciding at random I'll shift here it worked. This was a fun one even if it was frustrating

Assuming no one beats your time today, did you want to do this one again without assists next week?
